Early Times Report

JAMMU, Oct 23: Gun licences considered fake have been sent to CBI for verification.
In order to make available the record pertaining to gun licences online, the digitization process was being carried out till October 3. However, the record of some gun licences remained untraceable and have been categorized as fake.
Though there are intricacies involved in updating the record of gun licences but the staff at District Development Commissioner, Jammu's office is all geared up to complete the task in hand within the stipulated time frame.
Moreover, the staff is not taking any chances on the authenticity of the record and in the event of a minute doubt such cases are immediately being referred to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to check their veracity. As many as 15,000 people have taken gun licences which are being digitized so that no difficulty will be faced in future as and when some information is required of a particular licence holder and the record pertaining to any individual is easily available.
About 10 percent gun licence holders i.e. about 1500 people from Jammu district have submitted the forms containing the detailed information of their licences. Out of 1500 forms received so far, the record of 550 gun licences have been made available online.
While the process of scrutiny of these 1500 forms was being carried out, the record for some of them was not available which were then sent to CBI for further verification.
After the record is available online, anybody can check it with the click of a mouse on his or her computer.
Meanwhile, the official sources maintain that the record of gun licences issued so far is very necessary to complete the digitization process.
"The record of gun licences issued till now is the basic requirement to make it available online which is possible only after the entire record is accessible," said sources.
Sources further informed that if any individual's gun licence record remained untraceable, the procedure of digitization will be stopped.
