Amid rhetoric of 'Save Girl Child', a 10 day old baby girl found abandoned

Rajouri, Oct 23: Amid rhetoric of 'save the girl child' Rajouri police today have recovered barely 10 days old baby girl who was abandoned by her mother/parents in a tin made shed on the roof of a house on Thanamandi-Churung road in Rajouri district. Meanwhile police have registered an open FIR in this regard and launched manhunt to trace the parents of child. Sources from Thanamandi said the baby was found wrapped in the woolen clothes and was reportedly abandoned when she was sleeping reportedly in the wee hours of the Friday morning i.e. between 0400hrs -0500hrs. Sources said the incident came to light when some labourers engaged in the construction of the road sleeping on the road side heard screaming of the baby girl and found the abandoned baby. They immediately contacted Mohd Raees Ahmed Dar, local sarpanch who also reached the spot and informed the local police immediately. "Ironically not finding a positive response from local police, the sarpanch then decided to contact some local media persons including Mohd Nassar. "On reaching the spot reporters contacted the police and informed about the matter" said a villager on anonymity. After reporters informed the police the police team was rushed to the spot and took the custody of baby and them shifted it to Thanamandi Civil Hospital. Sources said that after legal formalities and on the directions of the doctors police shifted the baby girl to District Hospital (DH) Rajouri where she was kept in "Newborn Intensive Care Unit' (NICU) and was hospitalized. According to Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Rajouri the condition of baby girl is stable and she was responding to treatment. Meanwhile police have registered a case FIR against the mother / parents under section 317 RPC (FIR 162/15) and started investigation to trace the person/persons. A couple from Thanamandi area, namely Mohd Jameel and his wife, has approached the police for the custody of the baby girl as they have no child but were told to follow legal formalities.
