NH remains blocked as Sikhs hold protests in Jammu | Punjab Sacrilege act: | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 23: Expressing concerns over the alleged desecration of their holy book at Guru Granth Sahib in Punjab at Faridkot's Bargari, Sikhs continued to hold protests in several parts of Jammu blocking National Highway other key roads and some burning effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal. The Sikh activists continued their peaceful protests throughout the day at different places, including Satwari, Kujwani and Digiana which affected the normal traffic on national highway. Earlier this morning at around 11:20 am the Sikh students from different colleges held protest demonstration at Kujwani area and also burnt Punjab CM’s effigy to register their protest and then marched towards National Highway blocking the normal traffic. While police was persuading the protestors to lift the dharna from National Highway, some Sikh protestors also reached from Digiana locality and blocked the National Highway. They even staged a ‘sit on’ dhrna and started holy shabad Kirtan which remained in force till evening. Due to various protests, the traffic was blocked on National Highway causing great inconvenience to the commuters from Pathankot-Kathua –Jammu and vice versa. The protesters flayed the incidents of alleged sacrilege in Punjab at Faridkot's Bargari village following police firing on protesters at ehbal Kalan village in Kotkapura in Faridkot in which two Sikh activists were killed. Meanwhile, SSP Traffic Mohan Lal when contacted said that keeping in view the ongoing protests along Jammu Pathankot Highway the traffic was diverted to alternative routes.
