Udhampur, Oct 23 : Department of Botany of Govt. Degree College Udhampur organised a lecture by renowned and senior IFS, Officer O.P. Sharma Vidyarthi in which he interacted with the students and staff on various medicinal plants like Psoralea coryfolia(Bakuchi), Callicarpa macrofila( Sohala), Colbrookia oppositiafolia(sohali), Vitex negundo( Bana), Centella asiatica( Brahami bhuti), Polyalthia longifolia(Ram ashok), Mallotus phillipinensis (Kamela), Xathoxyllum and many other local species of environmental and medicinal importance. He also related various plants with local myths and traditions to highlight their cultural significance. The programme began in the conference hall where he talked about Ethno botanical significance of indigenous flora of J&K and various issues of ecological importance. He illustrated discourse on the recently held forest food festival. He narrated the importance of Ethno Botany in discovering traditional knowledge base of plants of the region disseminating the message to know, understand, love and conserve the rich biodiversity. |
