| All is not well within coalition partners | | | All is not well within the PDP. Everything is not fine within the BJP that shares power with the PDP in Jammu and Kashmir.In fact more than the failure of the coalition Government to deliver the goods it is the level of dissensions within the PDP and the BJP that worries the leadership of the two parties. In addition to this the level of misgivings between the two partners in power too have created a lot of confusion with the result the overall governance has tod a new low despite the fact that Chief Minister, Mufti Mohd. Sayeed and Prime Minister, Narendra Modi,are committed to ensure survival of the coalition rule.
Yes, the level of anger of people against the BJP is not confined to the Kashmir valley only but it has surfaced in the region of Jammu following the failure of the BJP to end the problem of regional imbalance and in getting various projects sanctioned for the region which includes the AIIMs type institute.A section of senior PDP leaders apprehend that the partys' alliance with the BJP could prove counter productive for the PDP in the entire State,particularly in the Kashmir valley. As a result of poor governance Chief of National Panthers Party,Harsh Dev Singh,has demanded imposition of Governor's rule in Jammu and Kashmir which alone could ensure political and security stability.
It is in this context that the PDP President, Mehbooba Mufti has decided to infuse new life in the PDP by making the PDP ministers available to all section of people. She has given a notice of six months to them for developing rapport with the public failing which they would be stripped off their cabinet portfolios, Mehbooba, while chairing a meeting of PDP legislators, Parliamentarians and office bearers in Srinagar reprimanded her ministers saying that they should not take their ministries for granted as they do not venture out of their constituencies. The ministries have not been assigned to you for six years and your performance will be reviewed after six months Mehbooba told the PDP ministers that they owe their ministries to their Zonal Presidents but when they come to meet them, the ministers turn them away saying they are busy with the commissioner secretaries.
But the level of dissensions being raised by two party MPs,Muzaffar Hussain Baig,and Tariq Hameed Karra,is source of worry for both Mufti Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti.
In addition to this some of the senior PDP leaders have publicly opposed the party's alliance with the BJP saying that this alliance could prove counter productive for the party in the Kashmir valley.
But the Mufti knows it well that he forged an alliance with the BJP and allowed the BJP,which had won 25 seats in 2014 Assembly elections, to share power with it only in the name of development.He wanted that since the BJP led NDA is in power in the centre forging an alliance with the BJP could help the State to receive special financial package from Modi. However, gradually the PDP leadership has grown warry of the inordinate delay on the part of the Central Government in releasing financial package even for providing compensation to flood hit people and for rebuilding the infrastructure that had been damaged in floods that has hit the valley over a year ago.
But the Mufti is hopeful that Modi will announce the package during his visit to Kashmir next month.That is the only safety walve for the PDP leadership. |
