11/3/2015 11:05:13 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Nov 3: Despite fresh snowfall the national highway connecting the Ladakh region with the Kashmir valley remained through while Srinagar-Jammu and historic Mughal roads also remained open. There was fresh snowfall early this morning at Sonamarg and Zojilla pass on the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway, official sources told. However, they said the road was through and traffic was allowed from both sides. They said if there is more snow, traffic could be suspended to avoid any accident. The highway, linking the Ladakh region with Kashmir, was recently closed due to heavy snowfall at several places late last month. In the past the highway was being closed for six winter months from November Ist every year. However, for the past few years the highway remained through till weather permits. Meanwhile, the winter stocking at different parts of the Ladakh region, which remained cut off for six winter months due to heavy snowfall, has been completed. There is now enough stock of essentials, including rice, atta, sugar, diesel for diesel power generator sets, LPG, pulses and kerosene oil. Enough stock of diesel is also stocked for diesel generator sets being used for power generation in the region. The 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country and historic Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region was through despite rain.
