In Police Deptt, some are without postings, others hold charge of 2 wings | | | ET Report Jammu, Nov 3: Due to the inordinate delay in transfers in Police Department, some officers are without postings while some others have the additional charge of two or more wings of the department. Official sources said due to the lack of coordination among some Cabinet Ministers, the Government was finding it hard to arrive at a consensus as regards the transfers and postings of police officers. While most of the transfers were now being done by the Home Department, over a dozen police officers of the rank of ADGP, DIG, SSP, SP and DSP were attached with the police headquarters as they had no work to do. Their posting orders could be made only by the State Cabinet but these were getting delayed in the absence of coordination among some Ministers, the sources added. The Cabinet had in the past witnessed heated arguments among some Ministers over the choice of police officers. In the last Cabinet meet also, two Ministers had clashed over the postings of their "favourite" officers at important places. Even as a major reshuffle was on cards in the Cabinet meet, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had to postpone transfers of higher police officers at the last moment due to the clash, sources said. Only those officers were transferred whose names created no controversy among the Cabinet Ministers, sources informed. Due to the delay in transfers, while some officers were sitting idle, a few others held the charge of two police wings or more. ADGP Dilbagh Singh is among those who are waiting for their postings at the PHQ. Kashmir's central range DIG also has the additional charge of DIG, Traffic Police. Haseeb Mughal, after his transfer from Rajouri, is too attached with PHQ. IPS officers - Sri Ram Dinkar and Vinod Kumar - are also attached with PHQ for the past few months. Two DSPs were recently transferred from the Jail Department and attached with PHQ. Apart from them, some SPs and other officers were too waiting at the PHQ for their postings, sources informed. |
