S. Tahir-ul Haq Early Times Report baramulla, Nov 3: People from Sheeri and adjoining areas of Baramulla district staged a protest demonstration on Tuesday against 'illegal' transfer of doctors from local health centre. Two doctors including NRHM doctor appointed for Public Health Centre (PHC) Sheeri were transferred without sending any reliever, angering local residents. The residents took to streets and locked Sheeri PHC for several hours. The protestors threatened massive protests in coming days if doctors are not posted in the PHC. "A lady doctor Zahida, who was appointed in the PHC Sheeri under NRHM, was transferred to some other hospital in violation of the rules. She is relative of a PDP Minister and hence managed to get out of block transfer," sources told Early Times. "As per norms, NRHM doctors can't be transferred. Then how was the doctor transferred from PHC Sheeri?" sources asked. Ajaz Ahmad, a protester said, "We wrote to BMO, CMO and took up the matter with local MLA Javid Beigh and Health Minister Lal Singh. But despite their assurances that the lady doctor appointed under NRHM in Sheeri would rejoin her duties, she did not." As if transfer of the lady doctor was not enough, on Monday another doctor, Naseer, was transferred from the PHC and no replacement was sent, said the protesters. "We fail to understand how the BMO Sheeri relieved the doctor when he didn't get the reliever of Dr. Naseer. We appeal Health Minister and MLA concerned to either provide doctors to the hospital or close it down," said Mohammad Sideeq Bhat. BMO Sheeri, Dr Nisar Ahmad Wani said, "On Monday we got an order from Directorate of Health Services, duly endorsed by CMO Baramulla that Dr Naseer has been transferred to DH Sopore, while as Dr Ruqiya from Baramulla will join at his place." When asked about the transfer of Dr Zahida and Dr Nazima, he said Dr Zahida's order was sent by Mission Directorate for deputation to Sanat Nagar Srinagar, which was not endorsed by the CMO Baramulla, and "I have not released her salary till date." The BMO said Dr Nazima was attached to Singhpora block on the directions of Health Minister Lal Singh. |
