Pak backed insurgency not for resolving K issue but for liberating Valley | | | Possibly Working President of the main opposition party, the National Conference, Omar Abdullah, seems to have misrepresented some facts. He seems to have misinterpreted the saga of Pakistan sponsored insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir when he has claimed that Kashmiri youth had not taken guns in their hands for securing economic packages. Omar Abdullah has said that the youth of Kashmir did not pick up guns to seek economic packages. He claims that 25 years of militancy were not for seeking economic packages. Kashmiri people protest and come onto the streets to seek a political resolution of the Kashmir issue. And when he was the Chief Minister Omar had, as he claimed, had told the same thing to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh back in 2013 when Singh had announced an economic package for the State on his visit to the Valley. Well did he announce or make it public what he had conveyed to former Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh? No he may have said so but he had not made it public lest he could face criticism from within the National Conference and the Congress. And Omar seems to be so sure of the reasons for Kashmiri youth to pick up guns that he has blamed the chief Minister, Mufti Mohd. Sayeed for trying to repeat that and tell Modi about the political aspirations of people. Sadly, Mufti got a rebuff from Prime Minister Modi. In fact Omar was simply referring to Modi's remark during his recent public address in Srinagar where he had said he(Modi) did not need any advice on Kashmir. Though Omar Abdullah is known for Mufti baiting which means that instead of supporting Mufti Sayeed for having suggested to Modi to promote cordial ties with Pakistan he (Omar) is trying to create a wedge between Modi and Mufti. Still Omar berated Modi for having skipped any mention of the resolution of the Kashmir issue during his speech. Even if one believes Omar for his assertion that Kashmiri boys would have not picked up guns had India resolved the Kashmir issue why did not gun totting youth make it public that they have taken the guns in hand to secure resolution of the Kashmir issue? And though Omar was not in the valley between 1988 and 1994, when militancy was at its peak, he should better go through the records to find out that not a single gun wielding youth shouted slogans in favour of resolution of the Kashmir issue. All the gun totting youth would shout "Hum kiya Chahtey Azadi Azadi." Others shouted pro-Pakistan slogans. And those who had crossed back into Kashmir after receiving arms training in camps in Pakistan and occupied Kashmir, shouted pro-freedom slogans, freedom from what they called Indian occupation. In addition to this more than 70 per cent gun totting youth were foreign mercenaries, most of them from Pakistan. Did these gun totting youth believe that by indulging in arson, murder, rape and loot they would be able to secure settlement of the Kashmir? Another question. If this was the motive of the gun wielding youth how would Modi be able to settle the Kashmir issue? Does Omar support the idea of handing over Kashmir to Pakistan on a platter? Well hunger is the source of anarchy and hence the Mufti and the Government of India would try to resolve the problem of hunger in Jammu and Kashmir which could guarantee peace. |
