| DC Office Kathua issues 435 gun licenses clandestinely | | | Arun Kumar

Kathua Nov 13, The deputy commissioner Kathua’s office has been accused of issuing 435 gun licenses to unknown individuals.
The district administration has always maintained that they have put a moratorium on the issuance of gun licenses but in a startling revelation in response to a RTI application filed by one Neeraj Pangotra of Kathua, it has been stated that a total of 435 gun licenses were issued for the period between 2014-15 and 2015-16 by the D.C Office Kathua.
Early Times spoke to a sizeable number of applicants, the local citizens of city Kathua who had applied for the gun license several months ago including those whose applications were not accepted on account of self declared moratorium by the district administration.
It was found that none of them had got his file processed in the last several months least to speak of issuance of license.
The applicants including Neeraj Pangotra, Dinesh Sharma, Mannu Kamlesh and many more were surprised to find out from the reply of the D.C office Kathua that in the last 2 years, they have issued 435 licenses to individuals who are unknown to everyone.
They further said that these licenses have not been issued to the local residents of Kathua. They enquired about the persons who have been given these licenses. One of the official on condition of anonymity alluded to some communal considerations while issuing the licenses.
It is pertinent to mention here that the department refused to provide the names and other details of those who have been issued gun licenses and the officials of D.C office Kathua on condition of anonymity alluded to the communal overtones in the issuance of gun licenses ostensibly under some well crafted design.
