SRINAGAR, Nov 13: Political interference has virtually wrecked havoc in the health department as health institutions were shown to be upgraded in the previous coalition government despite the fact that there was no need for the same.
Sources told Early Times that some of the ex-ministers as well as legislators of both National Conference and Congress had ordered for the upgradation of some health institutions in their respective constituencies without knowing the basic facts.
"The upgradation of the existing health institutes was ordered by the ex-MLAs of NC and Congress without getting the requisite details from the ground," said sources.
The sources said besides upgradation of the existing health institutes some of these ex-legislators made verbal announcement of creating fresh health institutes. This also led to disillusionment among the people who were hoping that the healthcare facilities would reach them at the doorsteps thus relieving them of the tension on this regard, sources said.
"These public representatives need to be taken to task by their own party for making false promises to the people they represented. They deceived the people in the name of development and for upgrading the existing health facilities. Since they know that they are not accountable they at times make announcement that does not hold ground," alleged sources.
Sources alleged that some of the BJP and PDP legislators were too following the footsteps of their predecessors while making false announcements about creation as well as upgradation of health institutions.
"It is high time that higher ups of the political parties issue instructions to their legislators that they should not make any announcement with regard to health institutes in the state. Further delay in this regard is all set to create problems for the people who tend to believe the person who represents them in the assembly or the council," said sources.
Sources said that people living in Srinagar, Jammu and other districts of the state tend to believe their respective legislators when it comes to development more so when the matter relates to the upgradation of existing health facilities or creation of new health facilities. However, when the proposed plan turns to be a 'hoax', the masses tend to get hurt and put the blame on the health department.
