Jammu, Nov 13: The Joint Commission constituted by Divisional Commissioner Jammu-for identifying grabbers of state and Nazool land in and around Jammu city is likely to face the same fate as many other commissions constituted by government, reports of which never come, as after the lapse of nearly two months, it has failed to identify land grabbers.
It is also shocking that though Divisional Commissioner Pawan Kotwal on September 17 had constituted the Joint Commission under the chairmanship of RK Shavan, Regional Director Survey and Land Records and the Commission was asked to submit first report on 25th of September but after nearly fifty days' lapse, there is no word on the report.
Sources informed Early Times that the influential land grabbers had won half the battle, after they had succeeded to transfer enquiry from Director Survey RK Shavan to Deputy Commissioner Jammu Sirmandeep Singh.
"If the land grabbers are poor, the administration shall leave no stone unturned to evict them and highlight its accomplishment through electronic and print media but if the land grabbers are powerful and influential, the report shall never see the light of the day", an official pleading anonymity said.
He further said that everyone in power corridors was aware of the alleged fact that land grabbers were politicians and bureaucrats, so the administration was also not taking it seriously. "To measure the land there is a separate wing but under a well planned conspiracy hatched by land grabbers, the enquiry was handed over to the overburdened officer in district administration so that there will be no progress", an official said.
Another official in DC office pleading anonymity said that the task of land measurement has been handed over to Tehsildar Jammu, who was yet to submit the report to Deputy Commissioner. "The tehsildar has to measure nearly 6000 kanals of land, against which reports of land grabbing have been received by DC office", the official said, adding that it was really a hectic job and the report would be submitted shortly.
Sources said that land grabbers' lobby has already convinced few ministers in the coalition government, for not taking action against them. "If the Commission was headed by Director Survey, he has a complete paraphernalia for land measurement and it was being assumed that within fifteen days, the report will be submitted and government will be in a tight cornet to take action, due to which the Commission's head was changed", sources said.
"Even religion card is also being played by these land grabbers and an appeal before a minister was made, pleading that people of a particular religion have been targeted by the Commission", sources said.
DC Jammu, Simrandeep Singh was busy in a meeting, while another official, who was not authorized to talk to media, confirmed that the report has not been submitted so far by the Commission.
