Mehbooba could soon be first woman CM of J&K: Mufti drops obvious hints | | | Kunal Shrivatsa Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 13: Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today further intensified the speculations that he would soon relinquish his office for his daughter, paving way for Mehbboba Mufti to become first woman CM of J&K soon. Replying to a query on possible handing over of the Chief Ministership to Mehbooba Mufti while addressing a press conference at his official residence here today, said," It's a democracy…Mehbooba Mufti's coming is a part of democratic set up but it is to be decided by the party after due consultations as and when the issue comes up.... Right now it is not an issue." "Mehbooba does all the work on field…She has a good connect with the people of the state… I remain busy administrative functioning but it is Mehbooba who liaisons with the party workers as well as common masses," he added. Reacting sharply over founder member and senior leader of the PDP Muzaffar Hussain Beigh's open criticism of his style of functioning viz-a-viz relations of PDP with the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), the CM said that somebody may say something but he was not accountable for that. "Beigh is senior leader of the party…. He has every right to have his own viewpoint…Dissent is essence of the democracy….. Every party faces dissent and it should be welcomed by all parties… People should be engaged in debate," said Mufti. When asked that why Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi didn't mention anything on Pakistan in his rally at Srinagar on November 7 last, the Chief Minister reiterated that reconciliation with the neighbouring country is an agenda for alliance and he will continue to pursue it. "Prime Minister cannot be forced to say something specific…Why should the PM say that… He is not under any kind of pressure to say that….. He (PM) is not bound to listen to everything I suggest but I think there is no option except having reconciliation with Pakistan as friendly relations with the neigbouring country is good for the state," he maintained. "I will not give up my efforts to persuade the Prime Minister to have reconciliation with Pakistan," he added. |
