No one to receive Div Com on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan function | SMC commissioner plays a bad host | | Early Times Report srinagar, Nov 13: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Asgar Hassan Samoon and the District Commissioner Srinagar Farooq Ahmed Lone had to face embarrassment at a public function held here today in connection with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan as the two guests found the host officials missing. Samoon and Lone were invited as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively for the inauguration of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan function organized by Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation at SK Park here. Though both the guests arrived in time, they were shocked to see the host SMC Commissioner Showkat Zargar missing. The duo was informed that the SMC Commissioner had gone to Jammu "three days back to offer Dilwali greetings to the Housing Minister" and was yet to return. Samoon, as per his office people, said if the host was out of station, the guests shouldn't have been called as it was against the official protocol. While Samoon and Lone could be seen visibly upset, a volley of questions from the general public left them embarrassed. The civil society people raised questions over large scale illegal constructions going on across the far and wide of Srinagar. The people accused the district and the divisional administration of being party to large scale corruption, which goes unchecked in the SMC. "Why don't you initiate an inquiry into the illegal constructions in the form of commercial complexes taking place across Srinagar," the general public shouted. But the official duo had no replies. Feeling embarrassed the duo left the function fuming. An official handout from the SMC confirmed that the event was held. "The function was presided over by Divisional Commissioner Asgar Samoon in presence of DC Srinagar Farooq Ahmed Lone," the official handout said. Sources said the Commissioner has gone to Jammu to request to the Housing Minister not to initiate any action against the officials who were absent when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Srinagar on November 7. "The negotiations are yet to finalize and that is why some of our senior officials are in Jammu," said a senior official. |
