Kathua Nov 13, Lanes and drains constructed by Jammu local body at kathua have deteriorated, thanks to sub-standard material used by the contractors. The work on the lanes and drains began after several deputations and submission of memoranda by inhabitants but all went vain due to use of sub-standard material. Subash Gupta, a local, said public got respite when local body Jammu started & duly supervised the construction of streets including drainage system after long pending demand. He said who knew that as just eye-wash to fill squanders pockets and added that Municipality officials made estimate and performed the menace. Gupta alleged Municipality of using substandard materials resulting pits and blockage of drainage system. Davinder Singh, said tolerant power busted out when dilapidated lanes & drains turned into pits, accumulation of dirty caused communicable diseases besides accidents, accused the contractors. He said contractors got clearance from local body officials who allegedly released liability with graft/mutual understanding. Locals said many terrific incidents occurred in previous weeks whereas minors were hospitalized due to blockage of dirt drained water & infections. The protesters demand Vigilance inquiry in the menace and action against tainted officials. The protesters warned to stage huge protest demonstration if government impediment to renovate the lanes & drains within days. When contacted to Santosh Kotwal, Chief Executive officer Municipality Kathua assured action.
