JAMMU, Nov 13: MLC, S. Charanjeet Singh Khalsa, Friday inaugurated Shaheed Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Hockey Tournament, at K. K. Hakku Astro Turf Stadium, here.
As many as 9 teams from Jammu Division are participating in the 9-day league-cum-knock-out tournament. Final of the tournament will be played on November 21, 2015.
Kashmir Sikh Sangat, Jammu has organized the said Hockey Tournament under the aegis of Hockey J&K. It is maiden tournament organized in the name of Shaheed Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, in the country.
Appreciating efforts of the organizers, the MLC said more such tournaments are required to be organized so that such events become a regular feature giving boost to sports activities. He further said that such tournaments go a long way in making youth familiar with renowned patriots, besides helping them imbibe sportsmanship and team spirit.
Speaking on the occasion, organizing secretary of Kashmir Sikh Sangat, S. T. P. Singh said that that the tournament has been organized in the memory of Shaheed Baba Banda Singh Bahadur with an objective to involve more and more youth in sports activities and to channelize their energy in a positive direction.
Baba Jatinder Pal Singh, a family member of Dera Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Reasi was also present on the occasion. The first match of the tournament was played between Young Star Simbal Camp and Hira Nagar Hockey Club. Earlier, the Chief Guest was introduced with the players and organizers.
Among others, SP, Hqr, S. Randhir Singh, members of Kashmir Sikh Sangat Organization and a large number of sports lovers were also present on the occasion.
