Historic Mughal road closed, Srinagar-Jammu highway through despite rain | | | Early Times Report
sRINAGAR, Nov 13: The historic Mughal road has again been closed due to fresh snowfall while the national highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was still through for traffic despite rain. A traffic police official told that the Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region has been closed yet again due to snowfall. There was one to two feet of fresh snowfall at Pir-Ki-Gali and other areas on the road, forcing authorities to suspend the traffic movement. However, the local authorities from both sides of the Gali have pressed into service with sophisticated machines and men to through the road, which is being seen as alternative to Srinagar-Jammu highway. Last week too the road was closed due to heavy snowfall and slippery road conditions. However, it was put through but vehicles were being allowed to ply from 0900 hrs to 1700 hrs only as the road was becoming very slippery in the morning and evening hours due to sub zero temperature. Large number of vehicles were stranded at different places on the road. Meanwhile, the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway was still through despite rain since last evening
