Former interlocutor Radha Kumar acts as a prophet of doom | | | Instead of taking into account former interlocutor,Radha Kumar's, sermon in which she has predicted that India may lose Kashmir within next 10 years in case it did not encourage dialogue with the Pakistan for the settlement of various bilateral issues, especially the Kashmir issue. She wants the Government of India to promote the process of dialogue not only with Islamabad but with the separatists in the Kashmir valley. She has also alleged that the security scenario in the Kashmir valley has further deteriorated without attempting at making a comparative analysis. Forget about what Radha Kumar says it is better for India to take note of what the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon has said as far as the current tense relations between India and Pakistan are concerned. Improved relations between India and Pakistan could create a more conducive environment for the two nations to stem the threat posed by terrorism, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has said, asserting that dialogue is the only way for them to resolve the differences. "I am convinced that dialogue is the only way forward for improving relations between Pakistan and India. I have urged leaders of both countries to resolve all differences through talks and have offered my good offices to that end," Ban has said The UN chief has suggested to both the countries to exercise restraint in dealing with any incidents. Given the significant threat terrorism has become to international peace and security, Ban said an improved environment between India and Pakistan could help both nations to tackle the threat posed by the scourge. "I believe that an improved relationship between India and Pakistan could create a more conducive environment for both countries to stem the threat posed by terrorism," he said. Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, in his address to the UN General Assembly debate this year, had proposed a four- point peace initiative to which External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had responded that Pakistan should address just "one issue" of giving up terrorism. The UN chief said that he is aware of the proposals on resuming talks between the two sides though he did not spell out the terms and conditions which would motivate India to reopen the channels of dialogue with Pakistan. In fact India has never been opposed to resolving various bilateral problems with Pakistan or with any other country through the process of dialogue. And the only hitch in the process of reopening the channels of dialogue is refusal of Pakistan to initiate measures which could guarantee that the soil of Pakistan was not used for exporting terror to India, especially to Jammu and Kashmir. It is strange for Pakistan Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, to say that he was ready for holding talks with India unconditionally. It is mere publicity stunt because hitherto Islamabad has laid down no condition for the resumption of talks with India. In fact it was India that has stuck to its one condition urging Pakistan to stop export of terror to India if it wanted a meaningful and sustained dialogue process to be resumed. Hitherto, there has been no positive response from Pakistan. Instead its moral, material, political diplomatic support to militants has been made available to militants, waiting on the launch pads on the LoC and on the IB, and top those operating in Jammu and Kashmir. Well one should expect Ban Ki-Moon to mount pressure on Islamabad to stop using its soil for exporting terror. Once Pakistan fulfills this and the only demand from India Islamabad would feel surprised when New Delhi will announce reopening of channels of dialogue. As far as Radha Kumar's emphasis on resumption of dialogue with separatists is concerned,it is for separatists to create an atmosphere which would motivate India to resume dialogue with them. As long as these separatists display pro-Pakistan sentiments and try to destabilize peace in Kashmir Modi will be the last person to reopen channels of dialogue. |
