Nine months on, shambled Kunjwani- the threshold of Jammu welcomes 'visitors' | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 1: In the month of March 2015 when BJP-PDP alliance govt took charge of office with a promise to change the face of capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar but after lapse of almost nine months the gateway of Jammu city -Kunjwani by pass is painting a dirty picture of the city of temples to its visitors. For a long time now neither the state government agencies nor the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) have paid any attention to maintain the main artery dotted with pot holes and big craters. The green crossings stand defaced and the pathways totally ignored while passenger and private vehicles passing through the road and daily commuters are the worst sufferers. Lack of lighting facility and absence of traffic police cops at the busiest crossing further compound the miseries of motorists. Mini bus drivers and long route bus operators have monopolized their favorite hot spots on the way and pay no attention to the traffic signals and diktats to regulate the smooth movement of traffic. Irked over the traffic mess and frequent horn honking, the local shopkeepers of area have been demanding repair work of the bypass road and designation of a particular space for stoppage point for vehicles for a long time but none of the state govt agencies have so far paid any heed to their demands. The local shopkeepers have alleged that Kunjwani bypass is the busiest crossing of Jammu but it is lacking in all types of basic facilities. Passengers are seen waiting for long duration to catch their long route bases but there is no passenger shed in the area. The green path developed along too is facing utter neglect and is portraying a poor image of the town planners and civic authorities. The road condition near railway over bridge at the entry point of Greater Kailash is also very bad and need immediate repair. Large craters lead to long traffic jams as over loaded commercial vehicles take long time to negotiate their way through the potholed road. In the absence of proper lighting on the bypass road the miseries of motorists get compounded as it often lead to crashes and random accidents on the busy road. |
