7th Pay Commission likely to be applied in J&K in mid-2016 | | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 1: The J&K Government is likely to implement the 7th Pay Commission by April next year which would benefit 4.5 lakh State employees and pensioners, top sources within the State Finance Ministry said on Tuesday. Sources divulged further that the present regime in JK is keeping a close eye at the latest developments taking place at the Centre vis-a-vis the implementations of Commission's recommendations. "Once there is a nod given to the Central Government employees, the State would not exhibit delay in the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission. As far as I have the information, it would not happen before April next year," one of the officials told Early Times. It was informed further that the meeting in this regard has taken place few days back between Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Finance Minister Dr Haseeb Drabu wherein the duo discussed at threadbare the measures that are ought to be taken for implementing Commission's recommendations. Sources divulged further that a detailed meeting between Drabu and leaders of the employees' union also took place on Tuesday wherein the issue was discussed and the employees' leaders were informed about the latest development. The move, as per sources, has come in the backdrop of the series of measures being taken by the PDP led dispensation to pacify the anti-incumbency wave in the State. It has resolved by the helmsmen within the dispensation that the early implementation of the 7th Pay Commission recommendations would not only benefit the State employees but would also make the critics to eat the humble pie. "By pacifying the employees, we could pacify the entire State. There are the measures which need to be taken in a bid to address genuine grievances of the State employees- a lot which was entirely ignored by the previous regime," a senior PDP leader said. The Seventh Pay Commission has proposed a 16 per cent hike in basic salaries of 47 lakh serving Government employees, and a 63 per cent hike in allowances. As a result, the overall hike in salaries will be 23.55 per cent. This compares with the 35 per cent salary hike Central and State Government employees got on implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission in 2008. The minimum salary for Central and State Government employees has been fixed at Rs 18,000 per month by the Seventh Pay Commission. |
