| For Jammu, national parties are a curse | | Regional party the only way out | | ET Report
jammu, Dec 1: The general consensus in Jammu province is that the national parties like BJP and Congress are a "curse" and that if the people of Jammu region are to obtain a status they deserved in the Indian polity and society, they have to establish a regional party with national outlook or to swing solidly behind the Jammu & Kashmir National Panthers Party, which has been working to the best of its ability and capacity to highlight the Jammu cause and expose the misdeeds of the in-power BJP and out-of-power Congress and other Kashmir-centric and semi-separatist parties like NC. "The national parties have failed Jammu people and they will never side with them, as pampered and over-developed Kashmir and Kashmiri people for them are the only factors in the State's political situation" is their well-considered view.
The view in Jammu province that BJP and Congress are a "curse" and that if the people of Jammu region are to obtain a status they deserved in the Indian polity and society, they have to establish a regional party with national outlook is well-founded. It cannot be brushed aside.
Indeed, BJP and Congress have failed Jammu people in every respect. The local leadership of these two national parties always look towards their Central leadership and their respective high commands and work as per the directions given to them from time to time. For the national leadership of these two parties, Jammu and Ladakh hardly matter as they return only three members to Lok Sabha, as also because these are non-Muslim majority provinces. Since the Indian political class and those at the helm of affairs are "secular", they cannot afford to annoy the 15 per cent Muslims spread all across India.
Didn't Congress always barter the interests of Jammu and Ladakh to remain in the good books of Kashmiri leaders of all shades of opinion? Did not it function as the B-team of NC, PDP and again of NC and betray the Jammu cause? And is it not a fact that BJP has been conducting itself in the manner the Congress conducted all through? It is a fact. The BJP, like the Congress, has betrayed the trust of Jammu people and Ladakhis to the extent that they have no say whatsoever in the governance of the State. In fact, both Congress and BJP could be charged with conspiring against Jammu people and Ladakhis. The view that Jammu people needed a regional party needs to be viewed in this context. |
