Early Times Report
Banihal, Dec 1: The residents of two villages of Darpora and Mulvat Changloo in Banihal got a brief respite after Executive Engineer assured that the distance between towers for 220 KV line will be decreased as locals apprehend the higher span of said towers would pose threat to the locals. According to locals the extra span near about more than one kilometer distance between the two electric towers KB number 301 and 302 of 220 KV line in the area will make them vulnerable to dangers.
They also said that the looming (low) electric wires during the winter and snowing have fallen three times in past and only due to extra distance of towers. Recalling from past, Rafiq Ahmed Padder a local from the area said, "one wire of 220 kV line fall down on the roof of my house and their family were narrow escaped said a resident.
"Many green fruit trees were got damaged due to the fall down of this line in three times in past two years, local lamented and added, "The two towers constructed by the Power Development Department (PDD) on the hill tops of village Nagam Darpora on Hokender Hill and another is constructed more than one kilometer of span on another hill top of Darshipora malvat village of Banihal. Locals told Early Times that despite their repeated pleas to the concerned department only verbal assurances have been doled to them but all in vain and they still are living under constant threat. They also recalled that during the winter 220KV line fall down in the village in 2013 making apprehensions of locals to turn true. "Again it was after the assurance of the civil administration and Power Development Department for constructing one more tower on this line the locals allows them to connect the same, locals said and added even after lapse of two years this electric tower still is out of sight. When contacted Executive Engineer (PDD) Sham Lal Sharma said that the proposal for the construction of the one more tower between these two towers are already submitted to the higher authorities . He said, "We have also approached to the District Development Commissioner Ramban and the same will be constructed soon after the availability of land and completion of other formalities.
