Jammu, Dec 1: State Agricultural Management and Extension training institute (SAMETI-Jammu) in collaboration with Division of Fruit Science, SKUAST-Jammu organized a two day training programme on Climate Resilient Fruit Production Technologies today. According to press release, Dr. Parshant Bakshi, Course Co-ordinator for the training programme welcomed Dr. K.S. Risam, Director Extension/SAMETI, SKUAST-J, Dr.V.K.Wali, Prof. & Head, Fruit Science, Dr. Gopal Krishan, expert from National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee, Dr. Ramakant Sharma, Deputy Director, SAMETI, trainees from Department of Horticulture, students from division and hoped that this programme will have fruitful interactions which will go a long way in climate resilient fruit production. Dr. K. S. Risam in his in his introductory remarks stressed upon the need to study the effect of climate change on fruit crop production as due to global warming, the temperature pattern showed an increase whereas rainfall pattern also varies which resulted in lowering of fruit production as well as quality gets deteriorated He hoped that this two days training programme will help in developing a line of action for combating climate change. Dr. Parshant Bakshi, in his inaugural address designated climate change as the problem of the century and emphasized on developing such type of technologies which will prove to be beneficial for more profitable fruit production. Dr. V.K.Wali sensitized the participants on climate change and its impacts on fruit production. Dr. Gopal Krishan, Scientist-C, National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee, briefed upon different aspects of hydrology as affected by climate change. Dr. Bharat Bhushan emphasized on role of extension agent in mitigating the effect of climate change on fruit crops. |
