LMD to establish advanced labs for improving accuracy | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 8: The Legal Metrology Department (LMD) is all set to establish technically advanced laboratories in the state to improve the accuracy of weighing and measuring instruments. "While Secondary Standard Laboratories, with one each at Srinagar and Jammu, would be established by LMD at provincial level, Working Standard Laboratories would be established in each district," Minister for CAPD and Tribal Affairs, Choudhary Zulfkar Ali said while reviewing the functioning of Legal Metrology Department here today. He said these laboratories would be established with the funding from the central government. Minister said the objective of establishing hi- tech laboratories is to further improve the accuracy of weighing and measuring instruments to curb cheating and other unfair trade practices. Zulfkar asked the Legal Metrology Department to design an in-house information portal and upload all the requisite information on it for the awareness of the traders and the consumers. The Minister said that the proposal for delegation of magisterial powers to Deputy Controllers and Assistant Controllers of LMD would be taken up with the Law and Parliamentary Affairs Department. The Minister also directed the concerned officers to launch an intensive awareness campaign to make consumers aware about their rights and laws defending their interests. In recognition of the performances of dedicated officers, the Minister ordered release of outstanding grade to those who achieved cent percent results on their set targets. |
