Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 8: Contrary to government's claims of promoting Indian and alternative system of medicine, the drug testing lab in Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu has exposed all claims as five years since its completion, the drug testing lab still awaits necessary equipment to make it functional. Reliable sources in the department told Early Times that in the year 2009 state government sanctioned funds for building infrastructure of drug testing laboratory in Ayurvedic hospital Jammu and the same was completed in 2011 but till date government has failed to avail equipment in the lab that could make it functional. They further said that Directorate of Indian System of Medicine (ISM) Jammu and Kashmir made a proposal of Lab apparatus previous year and had invited tenders twice since then, but due to poor response on contractors, the work is still in oblivion. "Same proposal, Department has forwarded to government but yet the government didn't gave any response", sources said. "The laboratory is to carry out statutory testing and analysis of Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani (ASU) drugs, and in addition, conduct various research and development work on Ayurveda drugs but it has remained defunct for years", sources said. At one hand, government has establish a nodal agency and sanctioned funds to coordinate, monitor and also direct in accordance with the programs and policies to promote medical plants, but on the other, state has no laboratories for research. "Few years' back union government had sanctioned funds for the development of medicinal plants across the state. The state government had depleted medicinal plants in Gurez, Reasi and Billawar forest division", sources said and added that union government further sanctioned funds under the scheme of horticulture mission which was directly involved in promotion of cultivation of medicinal plants on large scale through farmers across the state but all in vain. Despite repeated calls, Director General ISM J&K Dr Abdul Kabir Dar didn't respond. |
