| Kashmir surpasses Jammu in road macadamization | | Yet another act of discrimination | | Arun Singh

Jammu, Dec 8: In yet another setback to the people of the Jammu division, the BJP has failed to get funds to bring the region at par with Kashmir division as far as macdamization of roads is concerned.
Sources told Early Times that as usual, the funds were allocated for the macadamization of roads but in spite BJP being in the Government could not put in painstaking efforts to get the regional discrimination obliterated because of their lust of power keeping the general interest of the Jammu people at bay.
"Since Rs 106 crore were allotted for macadamization work to Jammu, and the late back attitude of the concerned executing agencies, the work has suffered inordinate delay in view of the reluctance of contractors owing to strict terms and condition laid by the Government for the executing the works," they said.
They further informed that moreover the pace of the work which is under execution, is considerably slow due to unfavorable weather conditions coming ahead which otherwise with timely initiative by the concerned department could have been completed to greater extent.
The apathy shown by the contractors in taking up road macadamization work can be gauged from the fact that earlier even unapproved works were got executed but now they are reluctant to take up approved works, they maintained.
In order to speed up the road macadamization, present Government had made two special programmes and accordingly the Administrative Department created two heads including Macadamization of Citizen Town, Roads Leading to Tourist Destinations but due to slow flow of funds in Jammu, programme suffered badly and could not yield desire despite BJP in the coalition Government, they said. |
