KPs reject proposed move on quarters in Valley | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 8: The Kashmiri Pandits have outrightly rejected the proposed move of allotting 50 percent quarters being constructed for migrants in Valley to local people and 50 percent to the migrants and termed it a big fraud with the community. Commenting on the return and rehabilitation of displaced Pandits to Valley, Kashmiri Pandits said that except one place settlement or a twin township nothing was acceptable to them and construction of quarters at scattered places has already been rejected by them. Though Panun Kashmir which is strong votary for carving out of a separate homeland on the North East of River Jehlum with UT status for settlement of seven lakh displaced Pandits with UT status, other KP organizations including All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC), Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) Kashmiri Hindu Conference (KHC) and Samporan Kashmir Sangthan (SKS) have voiced their serious concern over the move. Ridiculing the Government, ASKPC general secretary, Dr T K Bhat said that Government should come out with a blue print on the rehabilitation of Pandits in Valley and no decision is acceptable which will be thrust on the community. He said the statement by PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti that half of the quarters to be constructed for migrants will be allotted to local people is unfortunate. ``If Government plays the politics with the community on its rehabilitation even after 26 years of exodus, then it is an indication that Government is not sincere on the return and rehabilitation of Pandits, he added. Supporting his views KPC chief Kundan Kashmiri said nothing except a separate State within Valley for settlement of Pandits is acceptable to community. He said it is unfortunate that after forcing the community to leave the Valley the political representatives of main stream parties are not interested in return of the community to their homeland and they were playing politics on the Pandits return which will not be acceptable. The Government should explain that what does it mean by rehabilitating half of local people in the quarters to be constructed for migrants. Are the local people also refugees and have they also been forced to leave their homes and hearths by gun wielding militants? Kashmiri said that separate State with UT status and all institutional and constitutional guarantees within Kashmir with free flow of Indian Constitution is acceptable to Pandits and they will intensify the agitation for the same. Kashmiri has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi in this regard. SKS president Rakesh Kaul also ridiculed the statement saying that it reveals that political parties are least bothered for the rehabilitation of displaced Pandits leading an exiled life for last 26 years. Kaul said the Government should first discuss the return module with community leadership and then put it into motion. He said the community will not return in peace meals but together to a place of their choice and on their willingness. The KHC chief M L Thusoo and its convener P L Koul Budgami while commenting on PDP leader's statement said that she tried to conceal the facts and hiding the basic things. They said the core issues of the community be addressed prior to its return and decision be taken by taking KP leadership into confidence. |
