Early Times Report

Kishtwar, Dec 8: Residents from Begana village and its adjoining area today staged a massive protest against PHE Department and local MLA Sunil Sharma for their alleged failure in addressing the water scarcity problem prevailing in the village. Protestors also stopped the cavalcade of MoS Sunil Sharma which was passing through the area.
As per the details available with "Early Times", large number of people including women assembled at Sarkoot Chowk outside forest complex Kishtwar and blocked the road for more than two hours.
Amid slogans against PHE officials and local MLA, the protestors alleged that the middlemen close to BJP are being entertained by the department by way of providing them the special water connections while common masses are left to suffer.
The agitating people demanded immediate removal of illegal hocking from the main gravity line and also accused some PHE officials of providing illegal water connections to the people close to the corridors of the power. On receiving the information of protest, senior officials of District Administration and SHO Police Station Kishtwar Mohammad Afzal Wani rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the agitating people.
Meantime on seeing the cavalcade of MoS Sunil Sharma, the protestors stopped his cavalcade and asked him to fulfill his promise made by him during his election campaign with regard to bring an end to the water scarcity in Kishtwar. After this minister issued necessary directions to the concerned officers with regard to improve in water distribution system and asked them to address the public concern without any further delay.
Pertinent to mention here that similar complaints regarding acute water scarcity also poured from Sangrambata, Wasser, Poochal, Cherhar, Link Road, Tund, Malipath and many other areas of Kishtwar town and areas situated on the outskirts of Kishtwar town.
