Excise Deptt sleuths foil willow smuggling bid, seize huge haul at Lakhanpur | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 8: The sleuth of Excise Department Toll Post Lakhanpur today again thwarted another attempt of smuggling of Willow Clefts outside the State with seizure of a vehicle loaded with willow cleft left abandoned by the driver who managed to give slip to naka team here early Tuesday morning. According to official spokesperson a vehicle bearing regd no.JK02A-6455 chassis No. 8800577110795 reached at Toll Post Lakhanpur it was subjected to routine checking. "As per the documents provided the vehicle was reportedly loaded with Apples consigned by M/s Nazir Ahmed and Brothers, Pulwama, Kashmir to M/s Madan Lal & Sons Azadpur Mandi, Delhi vide Challan No: 03 dtd 06/12/2015," official said while adding, "the number plate of the vehicle was not fixed properly thereby causing suspicion and accordingly the vehicle was put to physical check." "During thorough physical checking, the excise department sleuths recovered a huge haul of willow cleft (4450 No's willow clefts) from the vehicle, he said, further adding, "sensing some trouble the driver of the vehicle fled away taking advantage of the darkness." "However, a driving licence No. JK0820130035996 of Kulbhushan Sharma S/o. Rasalo Ram R/o. Billawar, Kathua issued by RTO Kathua has been recovered from the driver's cabin, he said. He added that besides, this few toll receipts of different Toll Posts with different registration numbers have also been recovered from the driver's cabin "The vehicle along with the seized willow clefts has been handed over to the Police department, Lakhanpur for further investigation in the matter, spokesperson said. The whole operation was conducted by a team of the Excise department comprising Excise and Taxation Officer Virender Singh Billoria, Shamsu Duha, G L Sharma, Vikas Anand (Inspectors) and others. Worthwhile to mention here that the Toll Post Lakhanpur has been able to detect major haul of willow clefts and has seized 26349 willow clefts during the current financial year which is the highest ever till date . Meanwhile Rajesh Sharma, Deputy Excise Commissioner has appreciated the role of officers/officials engaged in detecting the willow clefts and thwarting the ill designs of the smugglers. |
