JK to have commission for FSA | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 8: The state government has finally awakened to a grave problem. A commission to oversee execution of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), is likely to be set up. The commission will function from February 1, and has launched a massive drive to enrol beneficiaries. The commission to be set up by the state government will be an appellant authority. Under NFSA, the state is duty bound to provide food to deserving people. The department can be prosecuted for its failure to provide food to the deserving people. "The department is liable to be prosecuted in case of failure to provide ration as the people now have the right to food," Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution (CAPD) Minister Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali told. The Chief Minister had announced to implement the Act in toto recently. An official said that enrolment for new ration cards has begun. The last date for filing the forms is December 18. The government has sought participation of the people in the enrolment process. Under the scheme rice will be provided at the rate of Rs 2 to the poor. Similarly around 45 lakh people will get flour at the rate of Rs 8 per kg.The CAPD minister said the ration shall be provided as per 2011 census. |
