Jammu, Dec 8 : The inaugural edition of Sudarshan Mahajan Memorial Inter School Indoor Cricket Tournament 2015 sponsored by the management of KC Public School commenced at KC Sports Club today morning with an opening function held inside the state-of-the-art indoor Cricket Hall of the Club.
Sukhnandan Kumar, Minister for Public Health, Engineering and Irrigation & Flood Control, Government of J&K, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The function began with lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest accompanied by Siddhant Chowdhary, member of the School Management, and AK Mishra, Principal of the school. Cricket teams of KC Public School and Dewan Badrinath School scheduled to play the opening match were also lined up at the lamp lighting ceremony performed in front of the audience of about 400 students of KC Public School. After the ceremony, the school choir group presented an inspirational song.
In his inaugural address at the function, the Chief Guest was candid enough to admit that he had never imagined that such a vast and well appointed hall was actually available to play indoor Cricket in the State of Jammu & Kashmir. He advised the students present at the function to channelize their energies into games and sports and expressed his concern for some young people getting trapped into the net of substance misuse and drug addiction. He added that parents have an ethical responsibility to give positive direction to the lives of their children and to motivate them to play games for health and recreation.
In the first match of the tournament played after the function, KCPS won the toss and decided to field first. DBN team batted somewhat over-cautiously and was able to make only 24 runs at the loss of 7 wickets in 10 overs. Vishal and Jatinder contributed 5 and 4 runs respectively to their paltry score. Yuvraj of KCPS took 3 wickets and Tanzeem and Aryan shared 2 wickets each. The DBN challenge was so feeble that KCPS overtook them in just 4 overs at the loss of one wicket. Yuvraj scored 15 runs and Tanzeem and Sparsh added 4 and 3 runs respectively to the small target score.
The only wicket went to the credit of Surat of DBN team.
