KUPWARA, Dec 12: An overcrowded bus turned turtle causing injuries to at least fifteen passengers in Lolab area of Kupwara district here in north Kashmir on Saturday. According to police sources, the private passenger bus on its way from Lalpura in the border district of Kupwara to Lolab, met with an accident when the driver lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a steep curve early this morning. "Fifteen people including the driver sustained injuries in the mishap which took place near a Power Grid Station Khumryal, police sources said, adding, " local and police immediately evacuated the injured and shifted them the Sub District Hospital (SDH) Kupwara for treatment." Local alleged that bad condition of interior roads is the root cause of accidents in the remote villages and suggested that the problems needs to be cured to minimize the accidents in remote areas. "No one is concerned about these tragic accidents and has been imploring the authorities to ensure safe passage over hilly roads," locals lamented. Most of the roads of the district have potholes and are in shambles forcing the residents to stand up in arms against Roads and Buildings department as well as Beacon authorities. Sources said that due to continuous snowfall from past one day in the hilly terrains, transporters find it difficult to ply their vehicles on these roads which left commuters to feel the burnt. A senior police official said that, "It is very unfortunate that the drivers are incorrigible to speed up vehicles and the passengers are immune to the danger. "Overtaking and rash driving is the habit of majority of young drivers besides money making by picking more passengers at some occasions turns fatal," the official said. |
