R&B messes up PMGSY: Executes road projects without bridges 12/12/2015 11:47:32 PM Arun Singh Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 12: The non-seriousness of the Road and Building Department towards the road projects under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) can be gauged from the fact that it got executed road projects but without construction of bridges coming in the alignment of them resulting broken connectivity to the habitation. Sources told Early Times that with the improper planning of the Department in taking up execution of road projects, the road projects could not be of any use due to non construction of bridges. "The department had missed out the bridges coming in the road alignment during the preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the roads projects which were sanctioned by the Government of India. They said that more than fifty odd road projects were sanctioned by the center and department started their execution but did not submit Detailed Project Reports for bridges come within the alignment resulting roads could not serve the purposes due to non construction of bridges. "As per programme guidelines which envisage the preparation of separate Detailed Project Reports for individual bridges with bridge length exceeding 15 metres after site inspection by concerned senior officials and the State Technical Agency," they said. They said adding that more than 52 road projects were sanctioned and taken up for execution during the period under phase IV and VII of the programme. Within the alignment of these road projects 73 bridges were sanctioned under phase VII to VIII of the programme indicating that proposals for construction of bridges had not been submitted simultaneously with the proposals of 52 road projects indicating formulation of faulty Detailed Project Reports by the Department. Interestingly, out of these 52 road projects, ten road projects were completed at a cost of Rs 23.50 crore without construction of bridges by the executing agency but these roads projects as such could not serve the purpose of road connectivity to the proposed habitations, they maintained.   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
