Early Times Report

Srinagar, Dec 12: A day after a private member resolution was produced in Lok Sabha by members of different national political parties including BJP, Kashmiri Pandits (KPs) terming the attempt merely a political gimmick said that figures produced were far from reality. Members from political parties like BJD, BJP and Trinamool Congress while participating in the debate on the resolution "Immediate Steps for Rehabilitation and Welfare of Displaced Pandits from Kashmir" produced details about total number of temples damaged in Jammu and Kashmir, renovation process from state government and discussed about change in name of Villages and Article 370. President Kashmiri Pandits Sangarsh Samiti (KPSS), Sanjay Tikoo citing reference of untrue date Produced in Lok Sabha said that not 170 temples were destroyed as was said by one BJD member in the discussion but actual figure is 720 temples were destroyed after Pandits migrated to other parts of Country. Similarly he said that details produced about renovation of 90 Temples is also untrue as till date only 15 temples were renovated by the department of Tourism at several places across Kashmir. He said there is no talk of renovation in government circles despite repeated assurances and struggle of Pandits about rest all temples which are in ruined condition as was claimed by these members. About Article 370,Tikoo told Early Times that 'it is merely a tool for politicians for their vote bank.' "They must stop politicizing issues of KPs, figures produced are far from reality. If they don't have information about issues pertaining to KPs they must contact us instead disseminating wrong information among common masses of this country," Tikoo Added
Pandits also castigated members of Political Parties for saying that 'names of around 600 villages' in Jammu and Kashmir were changed by people there and said that nothing of that sort happened ever in the history of Kashmir as names of villages are as per decades old revenue records and cannot be changed. Kashmiri Pandits said that members were divided over Article 370 which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir and how can one expect any solution from them concerning issues of Pandits. Pertinently members of different Political parties moved an amendment to the resolution which said that "people displaced due to partition in 1947 also should be rehabilitated as it was not clear as to how long the Line of Control will remain artificial. They also that about 65,000 Gujjars who had settled in Kashmir should be allowed to vote in state assembly.
Kashmiri Pandits said that "Temples and Shrine Bill" is pending in state legislature since 2009 and instead playing politics on issues of Pandits without having knowledge about ground realities, these Political Parties particularly BJP which is in government this time at centre and state as well must work for passage of temple/shrines Bill to protect legacy of Hindu Religion in Kashmir.
