Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 12: The flaws in the examination system of Jammu University came to fore today when Functional English paper was seen full of questions from General English. Sources informed Early Times that on Saturday, students of Semester-I of three years degree course had reached to their respective colleges for taking examination of subject Functional English. "The examination staff deputed in the colleges to conduct the exam, distributed the question paper as per routine but were shocked to find that the question paper of Function English subject contained all questions from General English subject", sources said. They further informed that the examination staff were also left confused when they found that even in the question paper, it was mentioned that question paper was of Functional English but all the questions were from General English subject. "The examination staff from various colleges, wherein the examination was going on contacted to University authorities, who reportedly asked them to cancel the examination", sources said. A college lecturer pleading anonymity said that due to negligence of University authorities, two papers would be cancelled. "The question paper of English subject is also leaked and the Examination wing will have to set up another question paper for Functional English as well as General English as it clearly signals that the question paper of General English was mentioned as Functional English and most probably in the question paper of General English the question paper of Functional English will be found", he said. He further informed that it was a big blunder committed due to negligence of few officials of varsity authorities, due to which such inconvenience was being meted out by students of Semester-I of three year degree course and also the College administration. "An enquiry should be conducted in the entire episode and action should be taken against the involved officials, so that in future such activities will be checked", an official said. Controller of Examination of JU, Sanjeev Mahajan said that the question paper of Functional English was not as per the syllabus. "We got phone calls from different colleges from the examination staff, who informed that students will not be in a condition to attempt the examination due to out of syllabus question, after which we asked the examination staff to take back the sheets from students", he said. He further said after deliberations, the question paper would be sent to the officials, who have set the paper and a decision regarding the further course of action would be taken. On being asked if the question paper of General English will also be changed, he said that though the question papers have already reached to various colleges but assured that they would also look into the matter and took a proper decision.
