Family members of 'hit-n-run' case allege 'police failure' to nab accused

RAJOURI, Dec 12: Alleging police failure to nab the accused resulting into the death of a youth in 'hit -n-run' case, the family members and locals from Tandwal and adjoining areas held strong protest and also took out candle- march up to register their resentment against the police for its alleged failure to trace the vehicle which hit a biker to death on October 18.
Deceased Adarsh Rattan was resident of village Tandwal while on way to home on a motorcycle was reportedly hit by a Tata Sumo injuring him critically but the driver along with vehicle managed to escape from the spot and couldn't be traced till today.
However agitated over the death of youth family member, relatives and villagers had held protest and blocked the Jammu-Poonch highway demanding early arrest of guilty of hit-n-run case. Protestors were assured by the senior police and civil officers to trace the accused as well as the vehicle within shortest time period. One of 'candle light marchers -Kapil Sayal said, "After 52 days, the Rajouri police failed to trace the vehicle and solve case." The villagers warned the police to trace the vehicle and solve the case within three days failing which they will go for the `gherao of SSP Rajouri and DIG Rajouri-Poonch. They also threatened to block Jammu-Poonch highway to lodge their protest against police.
"Even then the police have failed to trace the accused and vehicle which indicates the casual approach of the Rajouri police in solving this case" said a relative of deceased.
Meantime Chaman Gorkha, SHO Rajouri Police Station said that Police have pressed all its resources to identify the vehicle and the driver. "Even some drivers were are questioned following the description of the vehicle, but still the accused is untraceable, he said, adding police is on the job and have been raiding several places to identify the guilty.
