Forest deptt convenes Grazing Allotment Committee meeting | | | Early Times Report
Kathua, Dec 12: Forest Department today convened annual meeting of Grazing Allotment Committee under the chairmanship of Forest Chief Conservator wherein Gujjar and Bakarwal, Schedule Tribal raised several demands and grievances. Grazing Allotment Committee formulated for Gujjar and Bakarwal including all types of Schedule tribes who depend upon forest products like grass, firewood. Forest division used to organize such meeting in past and continue the drive to accept several demands raised by these community. While interacting to Media, Ashwani Kumar, Divisional Forest Officer, Kathua division has informed that annual meeting has been organized under the supervision of Chief Conservator Officer Jammu wherein Sarpanchs, Panchs, people from Gujjar and Bakarwal community and Schedule tribes are projecting their demands and grievances. He informed that Forest department asked grievances related to grazing land allotted to these people. He said renewal of grazing permission; new allotment cases and many other cases are being solved here in meeting. DFO informed that Forest department usually allotted land for grazing to these community in view of Forest encroachment, Forest protection and land identify for closures. Karim Akhtar, a leader of G&B community raised several issues during the meeting including allotment of new grazing land, settlement for unsettled families and appealed to continue grazing rights that would bring respite for tribal people who are entirely depend upon Forest land for livelihood. |
