Govt mulling revamp of SVC | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 13: The state government is reportedly seriously considering re-structuring State Vigilance Commission (SVC). According to sources, CM has directed the officers to study the functioning of the Commission of the other states and suggest suitable changes. According to the source, the CM is reportedly not happy with the functioning of the SVC. Sources said the CM has expressed the view that the Commission is working parallel to the vigilance organisation rather than an independent body to keep a tab on the high end corruption cases. "The Commission has at the present become as refugee of government perks and privileges for the favoured person. In the last many years it has not shown any tangible results and no significant case has been either detected or challaned by the Commission," said the sources. Sources said that the CM has directed the officials that a suitable changes be brought in the the Commission so that it functions as per the mandate on the pattern of Central Vigilance Commission and set an example. The Vigilance organisation is the real branch of the executive and Commission should not interfere in its working, but this is what is being observed. The government has definite plans to strengthen the Vigilance and also insulate it from the Commission," said the sources. According to the sources, the CM has set a definite time period for brining in the changes and it will be incorporated to put in place a new powerful commission soon. |
