Mehbooba misquoted, claims party leader | PDP denies Hurriyat's ashirward | | Controversy!
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 13: The statement of Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbobba Mufti that Hurriyat was taken into confidence before the new dispensation was formed in Jammu and Kashmir has created ripples in the State but PDP is claiming that Mehbooba has been misquoted and she has not said it. A section of the press on Sunday carried the details of an interview which Mehbooba Mufti had given to national news channel Aaj Tak and a few newspapers reported Mehbooba having revealed that Hurriyat was taken into confidence before PDP entered into an alliance with BJP in Jammu and Kashmir. However, PDP leaders vehemently denied that their President had claimed that present regime has got the "ashirward" of Hurriyat. A senior PDP leader and close aide of Mehbooba Mufti while talking to Early Times said, "Media is trying to blow the issue out of proportion the fact is that Mehboobaji has not said anything like this." On the other hand political circles were abuzz. "The moderate Hurriyat (M)leader Professor Abdul Gani Bhat had called on then PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in January last year before the Government was formed," said a politician. He said what transpired during the meeting is not known to many people. "It's unfortunate that Mehbooba has been dragged into a controversy by claiming that present regime was formed after Hurriyat's nod." A critic said, "If Mehbooba has really claimed that Hurriyat was on board then it can prove to be the last nail in the coffin of the separatists as they stand exposed before the masses for preaching secessionism." He said, "The debate is not about what Mehbooba said, the debate is about how close the separatists are to the establishment which they keep on opposing day in and day out." Sources said that controversy raked by media has put the separatists in a "very embarrassing position" as its people keep on casting the aspersions on them and "doubt their integrity." "A few people even claim that separatists get themselves placed under house detention to ensure their safety and protection," a source added. An analyst said, "It's an established fact that most separatists enjoy power without being a part of the Government. Many of them have got Z plus security and enjoy the facilities which are provided to a mainstream politician. Even if they were consulted before the new Government was formed is not that big issue." "Most Hurriyat leaders during the past 25-years have enjoyed numerous benefits and have built huge mansions despite Kashmir witnessing a turmoil and situation being averse. Their assets are disproportionate to their sources of income. It's unfortunate that none of the governments which have come to power during all these years have ever tried to ascertain how come separatists are so rich," the analyst added. He alleged that till the recent past separatists used to get the funds from both the sides and it's an "open secret." "There is no doubt about the fact that separatists take favours from the Government and the administration whenever they feel the need for it. The revelation of former RAW chief A S Daulat that Dr Farooq Abdullah helped son of the self-styled commander in chief of Hizbul-Mujahideen, Syed Salahuddin, had proved a point long back," the analyst said. |
