Not a single player from Jammu in State teams of 3 disciplines Discrimination against Jammu now spreads to Sports field 12/14/2015 12:00:26 AM Abodh Sharma Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 13: Sportsmen of Jammu region have become the latest victims of discrimination against Jammu as not a single player from Jammu has been selected in the State Athletics, Badminton, and Table Tennis teams which are taking part in the ongoing National championship under Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan in Jammu. Entire sports fraternity and the sports persons of Jammu in particular are up in arms against the Department of Youth Services and Sports alleging that not only the merit has been ignored, those responsible for the selection of the State teams have indulged in gross impropriety. "State teams are selected after organizing trials, giving opportunity to as many players as possible to come forward so that the best can be short listed to represent the State in a national level competition, but here, no one knows who conducted the trials and who selected the State teams" said a parent whose ward has been a raked player in Table Tennis in the State, but was not selected in the team. "This is a fraud and needs to be investigated as we are told that so called selectors have accepted money to select the blue eyed in the team", he added. Sources allege that since a certificate of participation in this national event has same weight and face value in terms of benefit under SRO 249, shady deals marked the selection process and undeserving were selected in the State team to give them the benefit of certificate. "This is not the first time it has happened. Department of Youth Services and Sports has become a mafia wherein undeserving are selected in State teams in School Nationals also for monitory and other considerations" alleged an athlete who was not selected, but claimed to be far better than many who were in the team. A senior official in the department of YS&S when contacted admitted discrepancies in the selection process. "There have been numerous complaint and we are trying to figure out those responsible for faulty selection process" he averred. While the organization of RGKA nationals in Jammu has brought to the fore the glaring misappropriation, it has woefully exposed the working of the department of Youth Services and Sports as the organization has been marred by complete mismanagement and incompetence.
