SRINAGAR, Dec 13: As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President, Mehbooba Mufti has made it clear that she is nowhere in race for the position of chief minister in the state leaders of opposition National Conference (NC) are looking for an issue to target the PDP.
Taking part in a programme organized by a leading news channel at New Delhi, Mehbooba had said that she is not interested in becoming Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir. She said that her father and PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is the best person to be Chief Minister. She added that she has plans to replace her father as CM of the state.
Following the PDP President's announcement the NC leaders are looking for an option to target the PDP. Over the last one month the NC leaders have been asking the PDP to come clean on the transformation of power in the state. The NC leaders have been targeting the father-daughter duo of Mufti-Mehbooba on the issue and asked them to make their position clear.
During a press conference at Jammu on November 13 chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had said that Mehbooba is 'mature' enough to become the next CM of the state. As the transformation of power did not take place, the NC leaders did not waste any opportunity to criticize PDP over the 'confusion' with regard to this matter.
National Conference working President and former chief minister, Omar Abdullah took to the micro-blogging site Twitter and wanted to know the response of PDP leaders following Mufti's announcement about transformation of power. Omar in a sarcastic tone also said that people of Jammu & Kashmir want to know who the chief minister of state is. Is it Mufti Mohammad Sayeed or Mehbooba Mufti, Omar had asked.
Since Mehbooba has cleared the air over the issue it remains to be seen what would be the response of National Conference leaders in the coming days. The party has to look out for an issue to target the PDP and especially the father-daughter duo. Interestingly Omar is yet to tweet about the announcement made by Mehbooba with respect to transformation of power.
National Conference has of late landed in trouble since a court in Bihar has ordered for registering a First Information Report (FIR) against Omar's father and NC President, Dr. Farooq Abdullah. It has been ordered that FIR should be registered against NC President since he had some days back said that entire Indian army is not capable as well as competent enough to save the country from the attacks of militants. He had also said that Pakistan should be allowed to keep Pakistan occupied Kashmir and India should give up its claim over the same. Dr. Abdullah's younger brother and NC Additional General Secretary, Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal created yet another flutter by saying that Kashmir is 'destined' to get 'independence' from India in the near future. Interestingly, the NC President had some years back said that Dr. Kamal has Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) as he is habitual of issuing controversial statements.
