Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 13: At a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is himself making fervent appeals to the people living Above Poverty Line (APL) to give up LPG subsidy there is no end to the black marketing and misappropriation by the LPG dealers of all the three petroleum companies, Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum.
In between innumerable complaints of black marketing and misuse of domestic LPG cylinders during ongoing wedding season has outraged the denizens in Jammu.
A local LPG outlet has reportedly innovated a new way of duping its customers, sources divulged.
They said staff members of one HP LPG outlet operating in Talab Tillo area of the city are visiting the homes of the subscribers for 'checking' their LPG cylinders and charging Rs. 75/- from each household for it.
"Though they are issuing a slip against the payment, but we have no information about this checking" he added. "I tried to call on the landline number of the agency but no one responded to my repeated calls" he added.
When contacted, an official of the CAPD, associated with the operations of Gas agencies said, "There is nothing of this sort in our knowledge. The subscribers should register their complaint with Director CAPD and Area sales officer of the HP Gas along with the receipt that the agency is giving and if there is any attempt to dupe the customers, even the license of the agency can be suspended".
When contacted, the owner of the agency admitted that such a checking was going on and Rs. 75/- were being charged from the subscribers. "This is biennial mandatory inspection of LPG connection, which is being done on the instructions of the company and all agencies have been asked to undertake this exercise" he asserted.
Meanwhile, customers of the HP Gas outlet at Super Bazar Jammu have also complained against the agency and alleged black marketing of the domestic cylinders thereby harassing the genuine subscribers.
