Kishtwar, Dec 13: The renovation of the Mubarak Mandi Heritage complex going on at snail's pace has disappointed the people.
The work on the said project is moving at snail pace for the past 9 years when the projected first started in 2006-2007 at the cost of Rs. 71.29 crore.
As per the details available with "Early Times", the work on conservation/preservation of Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex started in 2006-2007 and during the said period three projects worth Rs. 71.29 Crore were sanctioned by the government under different programs. After according sanction to Rs. 71.29 Crore worth projects, the then government even released Rs. 16.26 crore for execution of these projects which is still awaiting its completion even after 9 years.
"The work related to Army Head Quarter /Foreign Office under the project Development of Mubarak Mandi as Tourist Destination under central funding has been completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 4.37 Crore, However around 60% of the work related to Royal Court, Gadvai Khana and Badi Deodi under the project Development of Mubarak Mandi as Tourist Destination was completed till September 2015," the documents reveal.
The official document revealed that the work on Raja Ram Singh's place, Darbar Hall Central Courtyard and Zanana Courtyard (Toshkhana) complex under "Maga project for conservation/preservation of Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex Jammu" is yet to commence and the department of Culture, government of Jammu and Kashmir credited the delay in starting work under Mega project to shortage of staff in ASI Jammu.
The department of culture while distancing itself from taking responsibility of its failure in completion of work stated that the conservation/preservation process of archival/ heritage building is a highly delicate job in nature and needs extra caution and skilled manpower for execution of works without altering the original look of the structure for which department of culture remained non committal over fixing of timeline for completion of work on this prestigious projects of Jammu.
It is pertinent to mention that instead of completing the renovation work of the standing structure of court/jogger park, the same was demolished in June 2014 by the Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society.
