Shah intends to wedge gap between regions through tourism | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 13: The Director Tourism, Farooq Ahmad Shah intends to bridge the gap between three regions of the state through tourism. Terming the plan as his wishful thinking, political experts have stated that the state was polarised almost beyond repair and the present day politicians missed no opportunity to deepen the wedge between the regions for their petty political interests. The Jammu and Kashmir regions maintained cordial relations even in times when militancy was at its peak in Kashmir. However, the relations suffered a setback in 2008 due to Amarnath land row agitation which unfortunately claimed precious lives in both the regions. Since then very little has been done by the politicians to bridge the gap. Ladakh had good relations with Jammu region but perceived Kashmir as oppressor. The trend continues in the wet desert. Farooq Shah is only a bureaucrat and as such has limited options. Unlike politicians he cannot go out of way to set things right. Even Jammu and Ladakh regions have been accusing the successive state governments of discrimination on the tourism front. While the saner elements in all the three regions want cordial relations with each other, Farooq the bureaucrat can do a little they believe. However, it remains to be seen how Shah applies the binding material. |
