Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 13: State Health Minister is regularly carrying out surprise raids on various government hospitals during the day and night in a bid to streamline the working of these hospitals. During his "touch and go" visits, the entire hospital staff remains on tenterhooks with all possible records ready. Ironically, during his visits to these health institutions, he seldom checks the status of toilets, the most important and crucial segment of any hospital. The premier Government Medical College and Hospital, Gandhi Nagar hospital, Sarwal hospital, and several other district hospitals, health centres, dispensaries are yearning for separate budget to maintain the stinking toilets. In the absence of adequate manpower, the hospital authorities in Jammu have been managing the affairs through makeshift arrangements and struggling to maintain the clean environment. There is no dearth of hospital wards where sweepers seldom go to clean the toilets and in the wards they go, the condition of toilets is even worse due to the huge rush of patients, attendants and other visitors. The situation in the GMCH, Jammu, is too pathetic. In some of the hospital wards, the bathroom fittings and taps remain out of bounds, adding to the miseries of the patients who struggle to relieve themselves in the dirty toilets. Barring emergency and some selected wards, the general maintenance of toilets is not done on daily basis. The situation in the peripheral and other district hospitals is also not good enough to allow the patients to relieve themselves. |
