BJP to convince PDP on challenging HC order on Sadar-e-Riyasat | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 28: The BJP is likely to pressurise the PDP to challenge state high court order pronouncing that changing nomenclature of 'Sadar-e-Riyasat' with the Governor was unconstitutional. The sources said the BJP feeling political implications of it had decided to hold consultation with the PDP leadership including chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to challenge the high court order in the supreme court. Sources said the BJP is likely to discuss the matter with the finance minister Arun Jaitely, who himself is a noted lawyer and has command over the affairs of the Jammu and Kashmir and also on the state constitution. Jaitley in the past had contested the argument of the PDP on Art 370, though now both are alliance partners. "Jaitely will be contacted and consulted. He is the top most leader who has most say in the governance especially on the Jammu and Kashmir. He will be briefed on it had also asked to take stand on it consistent with the party's ideology," said the sources. Sources said that the high court judgment could have an effect on the party, which had consistently opposed the concept of two-flags and two- constitutions, which the state has. the HC order has come down at a time when the party is in power and it had raised questions about the sincerity of the party on it s ideology. "The party is facing serious challenges. Its opponents especially will questions the intention of the party on standing up to its ideology and this attack will be more when the party is in alliance with the PDP, which always had soft-separatist approach," said the sources. The Congress has already upped the ante on this issue and is planning to hit at the BJP for it and the timing is very crucial as the local bodies elections are coming soon and the BJP will face its first test here. |
