JAMMU, Dec 28: A top bureaucrat who is at presently posted at a senior position in Jammu is alleged to have bought benami property worth over Rs 1 cr at Samba in the name of his close relative. The deal was finalised in a secret manner by the officer's close relative, according to police sources. Since the land was disputed and there was the possibility of a clash between the two parties, the bureaucrat used his influence to clinch the deal at a 'cheaper' rate, sources alleged, saying over Rs 1 cr were paid against the cost of the land which "has been fenced by the officer's relative". "The officer plans to develop the land as a farm house after his transfer from Jammu to some other district. Till then land was fenced and registered in his relative's name, no one knows who the original buyer is," sources said. The land was now being looked after by the relative, the sources added. They said several administrative officers had landed in the vigilance net for buying 'benami' properties in the names of their close relatives and other nears and dears. |
