Contractors smell rat in fixing Sunday as last date for submitting tenders | | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Jan 3: Coordination Committee of Contractors (CCC), Rajouri, has alleged that, for a Rs 12.70 lakh works at Jawahar Nagar, Rajouri, the department of urban local bodies had fixed Sunday as last date for the submission of tender documents only to help some 'blue-eyed' contractors. CCC general secretary Shafqat Wani alleged that there existed a nexus between some ULB engineers and a few contractors. "Last date of submission of tender was fixed as Sunday while Thursday and Friday were holidays on account of Eid Milad and Christmas Day. Saturday was a bank holiday, so it was not possible for contractors to prepare CDRs and complete other formalities," reads a letter written by CCC to Director of Urban Local Bodies Jammu. Even the tender was uploaded on the official website on the last date of its submission in the department, the CCC alleged, saying the concerned engineers had made a mockery of the system. In its letter, CCC had also requested the director of urban local bodies to extend the date of submission of tender documents, but despite assurance from him in this regard, nothing had been done so far. "The concerned officer did not accept the tender forms on the plea that he had not received any order from the director for extending the date of tender," CCC office bearers said. Sources claimed that only two tenders had been accepted by the said department from the contractors who were alleged to be close to the concerned authorities. The 3rd tender form was not accepted as the contractor was late by few minutes. CCC has threatened to lodge a protest against the concerned officer and the minister if the department failed to extend the date. It also threatened to move court against the erring officials. |
