Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 3: A senior PDP minister on Sunday stirred the hornet's nest and assured the "land grabbers" that they need not worry as nobody would ask them to vacate the state or the forest land they have occupied in Jammu.
Interacting with the residents of a particular area the minister said (Yeh toh app state land par baithe hain, app log agar Jangle ki zameen par bhi baithe hotey, appko koi nahi hatega) "You are sitting on state land. Even if you had occupied the forest land no one would have asked you to vacate it."
It is very strange that on one side government has initiated a campaign to get the encroached forest land vacated. On the other hand a senior minister publically announced that nobody would be asked to vacate the encroached land.
During Minister's visit the locals put forth their demands including regularization of their colony. The Minister assured that their genuine demands would be looked into. The Minister directed the officials to prepare a comprehensive policy for regularization of the area and submit report to the concerned quarters.
However, contradicting the statement of the PDP minister, Forest Minister Bali Bhagat said, "No one would be allowed to encroach upon forest land."
"It may be his Minister's sympathy with a particular area. It does not mean that encroachment on forest land will be tolerated", he said, adding that in past eight months over 25,000 Kanal has been vacated.
Being asked about forest land encroached by a BJP Minister, he said everybody has to vacate the occupied forest land.
