Mufti's failing health | PDP's black sheep out to throttle Mehbooba's journey to CM chair | | Early Times Report srinagar, Jan 3: Much against the perception that Bharatiya Janta Party unilaterally proposed that J&K should have a "rotational CM" if Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti replaces here ailing father as the Chief Minister of the State, it was some "black-sheep" from within her PDP who asked the BJP to demand a three year term. Highly placed sources said some Ministers from the PDP, who had "earlier also tried to sabotage the coronation" of Mehbooba, contacted their "friends in the BJP in New Delhi" asking them to opt for rotational Chief Minister. Such Ministers, are understood to be enjoying good relation with the BJP's top leadership in the national capital. Sources said the "black sheep", who are jealous of Mehbooba taking to power, think that she would make them accountable system if she takes over as the Chief Minister. "They wanted to sabotage her coronation to meet their vested interests," said the sources, adding a lobby in Kashmir supports this group of "black-sheep". Sources said such PDP Ministers held series of separate meetings with their "friends in BJP" in New Delhi and also in Srinagar to anyhow sabotage the plans. "Such elements have been trying to create confusion as they have themselves been ambitious of taking over the reigns as the Chief Minister of the State," said an insider. Two months ago , in November when the speculations were rife that Mehbooba would replace Mufti as CM, such elements from within the party had got statement issued from BJP leader that there was no plan for the change of guard. "Now this time finding Mehbooba inching towards the chair of CM, such elements from within the party have been trying to create undue chaos in the alliance," the sources said. Sources said over the last few months, Mehbooba is unhappy with the working of such Ministers and feels that they have staked PDP's political career through their misadventures. Sources said she has been getting regular feedback from the grass root that such Ministers have even been involved in taking bribes in everything from "business deals to construction works." "Otherwise also they failed to come up to the expectations of the party high command," the sources said. As already reported by Early Times, Mehbooba is likely to take over as Chief Minister of the State in the coming days as her father is ailing for the past over a week. She is likely to take over as "caretaker CM." |
